Boeing Starliner

Boeing starliner: Boeing Starliner CST-100 Starliner’s first crewed mission to the International Space Station will take place no earlier than May 17 due to further launch delay caused by a series of extra-technical issues. This vertical flight is highly important for Boeing, which seeks to win more of NASA’s lucrative commercial spaceflight contracts and compete with Elon Musk’s SpaceX. As a result, the original launch of the mission was delayed only a few hours before the flight due to a pressure regulation valve failure in the Atlas V rocket’s upper-stage liquid oxygen tank.

This rocket is provided by United Launch Alliance, a partnership between Boeing and Lockheed Martin, and a rapid solution was required to be implemented that involved the replacing of the damaged valve. Therefore, the rocket had to be rolled back to its hangar for thorough leak checks and other essential examinations. However, the mission has not lost its shine, and astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams were briefed and prepared to enter the capsule at the time of cancelation.

Furthermore, it is a great moment for Boeing, which has faced lengthy delays and had troubles at its commercial aviation division. Starliner’s success is seen as a major step for both NASA and Boeing in expanding America’s presence in low-earth orbit following the discontinuation of the iconic Space Shuttle program. Until SpaceX’s Dragon capsule reached this milestone in 2020, American astronauts were sent into space by Russian rockets. Therefore, the upcoming test flight is not only a flight trial but a part of the certification process enabling Boeing’s Starliner to launch astronauts regularly. It will lessen America’s dependence on foreign spacecraft while also increasing its ability to conduct low-earth orbit operations.
